We've just added a new tool to MySAAB.info: the Tech2 SWDL Browser. It opens up the complete GM TIS2Web software-download archive for the Saab Tech2 diagnostic computer — straight from your browser. Pick a software version and language, inspect the individual card files, and download either the raw files or a ready-to-flash PCMCIA card image. No TIS2Web subscription, no Windows-only utilities, no Java.
What is "SWDL"?
The Tech2 doesn't store its software internally — it boots it from a 32 MB PCMCIA memory card. Dealers loaded that card through GM's TIS2Web portal, on the SWDL (Software Download) tab: you'd select SAAB Automobile AB, a version such as 148.000 – 32MB, choose a language, and write the card. The catch is that this requires a paid TIS2Web subscription, a Windows PC, and a PCMCIA card writer.
The SWDL "export" is essentially the entire contents of that download archive — every successive firmware version of the Saab Tech2 application, from the early 44.000 builds up to the final, most complete 148.000, in all 14 card languages. Our tool reads that archive directly and lets you work with it like a file browser.
What the tool does
- Browse every version and language — the full Saab application history, with file counts, dates and notes for each release.
- Inspect the card files — see each file's segment, memory offset, computed flash address and size, with a built-in hex preview (decoded or raw).
- Download a Files ZIP — all of a version's files, already decompressed and ready to examine.
- Build a ready-to-flash card image — a single 32 MB
.binwith every file placed at its correct flash address, including the card header (t2_fc.dir) and the directory/table-of-contents (t2_fc2.dir). Drop it straight onto a card.
How to use it
Open the tool, pick a version from the list on the left, choose your language, and either grab the Files ZIP or click Download card for the full image. Each export ships with a README.txt documenting the source, the release, and the exact file layout on the card.
To flash the card, write the .bin to a genuine 32 MB linear-flash PCMCIA card — the same type the dealer tool used — then slot it into your Tech2. That's it: the Tech2 boots straight into the Saab software.
Good to know
The files are assembled exactly as GM shipped them — the tool doesn't patch or modify the software in any way. It's provided for educational and reverse-engineering purposes, so flash cards at your own risk and keep a backup of anything important.
